16th July - Ethical Eating Starts in Earnest

Well last night I made our first vegetarian meal. It was a curry with chickpea dumplings. It was so delicious that my hubby decided that next time he was quite happy to have this one without meat! While mine had been vegetarian, I had fried up some Spec to go with his - he is as carnivore as they come. So to get a comment like that was just pure magic.

But, you know what? I went shopping last Friday and totally forgot about my Ethical Eating challenge - so no organic food for us :-( Perhaps it was my subconscious telling me I'm not ready to make such a big change yet?

Just another thought. Today I think Spring has really started. I know it's a month or so too early. And even though I am writing this with fingers so stiff that I keep making spelling mistakes, I can smell it in the air. The birds are all excited too. I just pray that it isn't a false Spring. Everything is starting to bloom, but I hope the frost doesn't rear it's ugly head and bite everything back.

Hi,

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this. I posted on my new Daharja blog that spring is here just yesterday, although we had a virtual blizzard just a week ago.

It's almost a month early. I'm seriously worried about climate change. If the seasons are this mucked up already, with theoretically less than a degree of heating happened, how can 2C increase possibly be good?

And yet hardly anyone sees it, and life goes on...

Daharja,
It's so refreshing to hear your comments. I mention the early season to people and most just reply with 'Oh well, the plants must know what they are doing." What the...?! It leaves me with a cold chill (ironically) to think that people are in denial over the fact that we may be able to cause such vast changes to our Earth.

The plants are confused, and the planet is confused. How anyone can NOT be worried is beyond me!

We've got blossom on the boughs here, but it is freezing off because the nights are still going down below zero. Not Good.

I'm tying all the strings of the puzzle together, and humanity is hanging on by a thread here, but we're too dumb to know it.

I'm so angry at my parents' generation for doing this to us, and angry at myself for some of the choices I make which are just as bad in many ways. In the meanwhile, I'm preparing and learning and wishing I had vastly more energy than I do (I have two kids under 4).

How it will all blow out? Your guess is as good as mine, but I wouldn't want to be living in the US right now. I think they're in for the roughest time of all. Spam and guns indeed.
